Philosophy of Care

Being told you have interstitial lung disease (ILD) or pulmonary fibrosis (lung scarring) can feel confusing and alarming. That is why one of my main goals is to educate my patients about what this means and walk them through our process of trying to figure out the cause. During our “multidisciplinary meetings,” I and other ILD doctors discuss patient cases as a group, along with other ILD experts including chest radiologists and rheumatologists, to establish a patient’s diagnosis or discuss what further testing may be needed. I listen to patients, thoroughly review their records, and propose treatment plans based on up-to-date evidence and patients’ unique preferences and circumstances.

I strive to establish strong relationships with my patients through open communication, shared decision-making, and treating others with kindness and respect.

Clinical Interests

Dr. Liu specializes in pulmonary and critical care (ICU) medicine. Her clinical focus is on the diagnosis and management of interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), including idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), autoimmune-related ILDs, and hypersensitivity pneumonitis.

Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Liu’s research interest is in respiratory epidemiology (population health and preventive medicine). Her research focuses on understanding the potential long-term effects of environmental exposures, such as wildfire smoke, on respiratory health.
