Job Summary
The mission of the UCSF Risk Management and Insurance Services
(RMIS) organization is to ensure productive stewardship of campus financial,
real property, and human resources through the identification and management of
insurable as well as uninsurable risks associated with UCSF’s
activities consistent with the University’s mission of teaching, research, and
public service.
The Director of RMIS is responsible for developing and managing
the enterprise-wide risk management systems and processes required for the
effective management of campus-wide risks related to University activities,
safeguarding UCSF assets, and insuring compliance with University policies and
bears the institutional risk for the areas described below.
Activities include:
Development of UCSF’s strategic risk
assessment approach in order to improve UCSF’s
capacity for informed decision-making by anticipating, identifying, analyzing,
and mitigating potential sources of risk; administration of UCSF’s
insured and self-insured risk management programs, and loss control and
prevention programs; develops and implements risk management strategies that
facilitate the University’s ability to carry out its mission; create a reliable
risk assessment capability to help maintain a stable financial environment;
coordinate the management of cross-enterprise risk management programs to
improve overall assessment of capital and operating needs.
Under the Director’s leadership and direction, the Risk Management
Services staff: Design and deliver educational and training programs for all
risk related responsibilities; process, enter, and coordinate claims
activities; manage all employment liability claims, including both the
litigation process and pre-litigation settlement process; manage campus claims
under three self-insured University wide programs (General Liability, Property
(“All-Risk”), and Auto Liability); manage claims under several other insured
special risk programs (Fine Arts, Student/Off-Campus Activities, Business
Travel Accident, Builders’ Risk, etc.); conduct subrogation activities
associated with third party recovery under the self-insured plans; provide
consultation and development assistance regarding Waivers of Liability for
off-campus activities involving students or the public; provide bonding
information for staff seeking certification as Notaries Public; and perform
other duties assigned.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, psychology, or related field; 10-15
years working experience in a risk management related field; highly motivated
self starter with experience working in complex organizational settings;
excellent written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal
skills; proficiency in MS Office Suite applications such as Access, Excel,
Word, and PowerPoint. Note: Fingerprinting and background check required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in related field; UC
or UCSF experience; knowledge of UC human resources policies and guidelines.
