The Sexual Harassment Officers may start a formal investigation in response to a request (preferably in writing) from an individual. They may also start a formal investigation without such a request after making a preliminary inquiry into the facts. The wishes of the requesting party shall be considered, but are not determinative. Whenever possible, investigations under this policy shall be coordinated with applicable complaint resolution, grievance, and disciplinary proceedings to avoid duplication in the fact finding process. Reports made pursuant to this policy may be used as evidence if permitted by the rules of the applicable complaint resolution, grievance, and disciplinary proceedings.
