CLAS Standard 12
Standard 12's intent is to ensure the development of a collaborative relationship with the community. This relationship is informed and influenced by the community interests, expertise and needs.
Participatory Collaborative Community Partnerships: This concept refers to two levels of an organization's interaction with the community for the purpose of achieving cultural competency.
- Level One is active consultation with patients and community representatives in the design and delivery of services and in the planning and implementation of CLAS activities. This includes input into broad organizational policies, evaluation mechanisms, marketing and communication strategies and staff training programs.
- Level Two is collaboration and consultation with community based organizations, providers and leaders for the purpose of partnering on outreach, building provider networks, providing services referrals and enhancing public relations with the community.
JCAHO's Leadership Standards want an organization to get input and include the community and consumers in their planning process. This CLAS Standard wants the organization to assure the input and participation of the major populations served and the community in the planning process, as appropriate.
