Education Core

The education core mission is to develop gerontologic curricular content and programs for medical and allied health professions. Center faculty and staff undertake a wide range of academic and clinical curriculum development, continuing professional education and faculty development activity. These efforts are designed and implemented in conjunction with the UC Davis office of medical education, other UC Health Science campuses, health and human services departments at the California State University campuses, Community Colleges, health care organizations and community-based agencies.

The goal of the education core is to prepare the medical and allied health professions workforce with the skills, knowledge and attitudes that will translate into high quality healthcare for the elderly by providing educational workshops, training of the trainer and faculty development programs. This is accomplished through subcontracts with the Northern California Geriatric Education Center, UCSF, California Geriatric Education Center, UCLA, The Academic Geriatric Resource Center, and University Office of the Vice President.

The public education mission is to enhance the knowledge of seniors and their families on healthy aging, specific aging diseases, and new advances in aging through a myriad of public forums, including but not limited to onsite interactive educational lectures, Osher Life-Long Learning Institutes, cable television, and web-based videos.

The goal is to reach out to a vast and diverse audience utilizing the most cost effective and efficient methods of delivery to improve the health and well-being of seniors and making healthy aging a reality.
