Stephen P. Boyers

Philosophy of Care

As a subspecialist in reproductive endocrinology, Dr. Boyers's expertise is in reproductive function, from puberty and developmental abnormalities of the female reproductive organs through fertility and family planning, to menopause and aging. During the past 20 years, his research has focused on helping infertile couples to conceive. Reproductive medicine is much more than science and technology. It's about families making informed health-care decisions. As a university physician, Dr. Boyers offers the most sophisticated therapies, but high technology is not the best choice for everyone. Emotional issues, risks and costs are also important. Dr. Boyers tries to help patients separate medical fact from fiction, so they can make informed choices about testing and treatment. Patient education - teaching patients about their bodies and how to stay healthy - is one of the most rewarding aspects of his job. The unique quality of a university practice is that it combines patient care with teaching and high-tech research. University physicians never stop learning. We can't. We have the responsibility of training the next generation of doctors. We learn from our research and our patients, and they, in turn, benefit from our expertise.
