Family medicine sports medicine training program

We are delighted to offer this special training experience to a unique group of applicants. In order to process your application you must submit an ERAS application and select the "Traditional Track" for UC Davis and let us know by email that you are interested in pursuing this rack. Interviews for this track will take place on Fridays.

Overview

This combined training opportunity was initiated in June of 2007 with our first FM/Sports Medicine track trainee. The goal of the program is to enable highly motivated residents with demonstrated sports medicine interests to enable a track of dedicated longitudinal curriculum time to gain experience in a variety of primary care sports medicine clinical and scholarly activities to prepare them for a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship position.

Objectives

The objective of the program is to provide residents with a variety of extra Spots Medicine training experiences here at UC Davis, as well as at other locations, in an effort to strengthen their knowledge base in Sports Medicine and enhance their marketability in the Sports Medicine fellowship arena.

Program oversight

The Sports Medicine Track is a three-year experience coordinated through the Family and Community Medicine department. Dr. George Rankin, who is CAQ eligible in Sports Medicine, is the Clinical Training Director and functions as the advisor to our FM/SM residents.

Curriculum

This track time will include experiences in our Family Medicine Sports Medicine and UC Davis Sports Medicine Clinics. Selective sports medicine experiences in this track are intergrated in lieu of traditional track elective time. Research to include case-based activities, observational and/or hypothesis driven ideas will be encouraged. Time will be dedicated for attendance and possible presentations at the meetings of the national sports medicine societies (ACSM and AMSSM).
