August 13, 2010
Joy Melnikow, professor of family and community medicine and director of the Center for Healthcare Policy and Research, has been named the vice chair for public health for the California Health Benefits Review Program (CHBRP). CHBRP provides independent analysis of the medical, financial and public health impacts of proposed health insurance benefit mandates and repeals to the California State Legislature.

As vice chair for public health, Melnikow will lead CHBRP’s Public Health Team, which consists of faculty and researchers at UC Davis School of Medicine and the Center for Healthcare Policy and Research, including:
- Dominique Ritley, a senior health policy analyst at the UC Davis Center for Healthcare Policy and Research, whose research focuses on measuring the quality of health care and implications for health policy.
- Stephen McCurdy, professor of public health sciences and director of the UC Davis Master of Public Health (MPH) Program, whose research interests focus on occupational health and injury in agricultural populations.
- Diana Cassady, assistant professor of public health sciences, whose research focuses on community nutrition and social marketing, with a special interest in reducing health disparities.
