UCDHS Behavioral Health Center Overview

The UCD Behavioral Health Center (BHC) is a cost center within the UCD Health System (UCDHS) created to provide mental health services to all capitated patients. The BHS is staffed by psychiatrists, psychologists and social workers from the Departments of Psychiatry, Family and Community Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Cancer Center, Social Services, and Employee Assistance.

The BHC was created to provide coordinated and efficient mental health care by having a single intake and triage point where patients would be evaluated for the type and level of care needed, and quickly connected with the appropriate clinician or program. Referring primary care providers make referrals during business hours online. For urgent care after business hours, a primary care provider can access an intake clinician by telephone through the Emergency Room.

The BHC is administered by the multidisciplinary management team: a psychiatrist as Medical Director, a psychologist as Associate Director, and an administrative manager. This management team reports to an executive committee of hospital administrators and clinicians. Administrative staff includes an intake coordinator, a clinical case manager, and an information system analyst.
