History

Throughout his career, George Snively, M.D., was a dedicated clinician and researcher with a passion for training the next generation of primary care clinicians. In 1973, he was appointed Professor of Family Practice in the School of Medicine at the University of California, Davis, and in 1980 was appointed the Chair of the Department. He provided outstanding leadership in to the Department during the formative years of this new discipline of Family Practice. He was committed to the education of family physicians and family nurse practitioners/physician assistants, and was successful in recruiting faculty members with outstanding clinical, teaching and research skills.

To honor her husband and his passion for primary care and medical education after his death, his wife, Dr. Suzanne Snively, established the "George Snively Visiting Professorship in Family Medicine." Over the years, the Snively Professorship has provided wonderful opportunities for our faculty, residents, FNP/PA students and medical students to interact with some of the country's finest academic physicians.
