A mentor plays a critical role in the successful development of others to realize their full academic potential.  However, often an individual’s effort to provide mentorship is not reflected or adequately recognized in the mentor’s professional record. The goal of this award is to recognize and reward School of Medicine and Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing faculty (Academic Federation and Academic Senate) who excel in mentoring and thus contribute to the success of our faculty and UC Davis Health.  We wish to focus recognition of this activity on those mentors that have specifically helped early career faculty to succeed.

Each fall we accept nominations for faculty (Academic Federation and Academic Senate) who have played a key role as mentors to faculty in their professional and/or personal mentoring. Faculty at the level of Associate Professor and Full Professor are eligible to be nominated for this award. The mentoring awards recognize excellence in Research, Teaching, Clinical, and/or Leadership Mentoring. You may designate a nominee as excelling in one or more than one of these categories. The primary criterion for an award is evidence of excellent mentoring that supports early career faculty development.

Awardees receive a cash award and are honored at the Annual Vice Chancellor Awards Ceremony .
