Medical student program

The Department of Emergency Medicine offers several elective rotations for medical students in order to provide emergency medicine experience in both clinical and research areas. Starting as MS1s, students can participate in emergency care with the EMR 401 preceptorship. During the MS4 year, several electives are offered to provide students with basic emergency medicine knowledge and continued exposure to the care of emergency patients.

These electives are some of the most popular fourth-year courses, and most students feel that they gained a unique knowledge base during their emergency medicine rotations. Students work side-by-side with emergency medicine residents and are supervised directly by emergency medicine faculty, with significant time spent on bedside teaching and personalized interaction.

Undergraduate Student Program

The Emergency Medicine Research Associates Program (EMRAP) provides the undergraduate aspiring to a career in health care with experience in the place where acute medical care begins, the emergency department. The UC Davis Medical Center, a 577-bed hospital, is the major teaching affiliate for the UC Davis School of Medicine.

The UC Davis Department of Emergency Medicine is recruiting college students to participate in our research efforts investigating clinical questions in this demanding setting. The research program in emergency medicine at UC Davis Health System is very active. Projects have been accomplished and are ongoing in a broad spectrum of clinical issues in the emergency department.
