Dr. Sally Ozonoff is a Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the M.I.N.D. Institute. Dr. Ozonoff has been working with and studying individuals with autism spectrum disorders since 1985. She received a bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and a masters and doctorate from the University of Denver, where Dr. Bruce Pennington and Dr. Sally Rogers were her mentors. She is trained as a clinical psychologist and is a licensed practicing clinician, in addition to her research work.

Dr. Ozonoff did her predoctoral internship at the University of North Carolina TEACCH program in 1990. In 1991, she joined the faculty of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, where she was an Assistant and then an Associate Professor of Psychology, co-directed the Autism Specialty Clinic, and served on the boards of the Autism Society of Utah and Carmen B. Pingree School for Autism. In 2002, Dr. Ozonoff moved to M.I.N.D. Institute at the University of California at Davis, where she is an Endowed Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Dr. Ozonoff has published over 50 empirical papers, 25 chapters, and 3 books on the diagnosis, assessment, causes of, and treatments for autism and Asperger syndrome. She has been funded by the National Institutes of Health to study these topics continuously since 1989. Her research interests include very early identification of autism in infancy, developmental regression, the diagnostic validity of autism spectrum subtypes, the neuropsychology of autism spectrum disorders, the broader autism phenotype, and repetitive behaviors in autism. In her clinical work, she specializes in early detection and in diagnostic and treatment issues relevant to children, teens, and adults with high-functioning autism and Asperger syndrome. Dr. Ozonoff serves on the editorial boards of 3 scientific journals devoted to autism and developmental psychopathology.
