The Office of Diversity at UC Davis School of Medicine supports faculty, residents and students. Many of the Office’s programs include all three groups and may be viewed at the links below. Special programs designed just for faculty include:
Efforts to Recruit a More Diverse Faculty
Our faculty positions are shared with our local community Latino and African American physician groups. Our Office has representatives at national meetings of the NMA, NHMA, and GLAMA seeking to recruit faculty members. The Associate Dean of Diversity and Faculty Life, advises each search committee chair, as well as the entire committee for searches at the Center Director, Associate Dean, and Department Chair levels, on how to conduct a diverse search with special consideration for understanding and avoiding unconscious bias.
Underrepresented in Medicine (URM) Faculty Mentoring Group
This group includes faculty from underrepresented groups at all levels (Assistant, Associate, and Full Professors). They use a “team approach” and the book, “The Black Academic’s Guide to Winning Tenure—Without Losing Your Soul” by Kerry Ann Rockquemore and Tracey Laszloffy to guide their discussions about the particular issues of URM faculty.
Women in Medicine and Science (WIMS)
This group empowers female faculty through collaboration and mentorship. This faculty group works together with the student AMWA (American Medical Women’s Association) group.
