Maverakis Lab Members

  Emanual Maverakis, M.D.
Assistant Professor in-Residence
Research interests: Immunotherapies for melanoma, T cell mediated skin diseases, and the murine models of autoimmunity, clinical trials for melanoma and autoimmunity
Yoshinori Miyamura, Ph.D.
Assistant Research Immunologist
Dr. Miyamura was an assistant professor in the Department of Dermatology at the prestigious Nagoya University in Japan. At Nagoya University Dr. Miyamura described novel gene mutations resulting in oculocutaneous albinism. He was also able to demonstrate that mutations of the RNA-specific adenosine deaminase gene (DSRAD) are responsible for the genetic disease dyschromatosis symmetrica hereditaria. After receiving a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education he relocated to the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for three years to study melanocyte biology. He then joined the faculty at UC Davis as an Assistant Reseacher (Assistant Research Professor) in the Department of Dermatology. Dr. Miyamura is an excellent molecular biologist. He is currently working on characterizing the gene expression profiles of individual autoreactive T cell clones.
Yoko Ono, M.D.
Assistant Research Immunologist
Dr. Ono was an instructor at Iwate Medical University in Japan, where she also received her medical training, including fellowship training in hematology and oncology. She specializes in bone marrow and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. In addition to her clinical training, she has completed a research fellowship at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, where she remained as a research scientist for one year upon completion of the fellowship. Dr. Ono is currently a member of the Department of Dermatology at UC Davis. She is an outstanding cellular immunologist who is focused on translational research.

Kayo Kondo, Ph.D.
Postdoctoral Fellow
Dr. Kondo completed her Ph.D. in the Department of Immunology at Ryukyus University in Okinawa, Japan. She is an excellent immunologist who has worked on characterizing T cell co-stimulation pathways in humans. She is also an expert at making hybridomas for monoclonal antibody production. She is currently studying animal models of autoimmunity.
