Department of Dermatology

Peter J. Lynch, M.D.

Dr. Lynch is an excellent general dermatologist with more than 40 years of clinical experience.  He began his career at the University of Michigan where he completed his dermatology residency and served on as faculty for five years.  He then left Michigan to become the head of Dermatology at the University of Arizona.  He also served as the Vice Chairman of the Department of Medicine there.  In 1986, Dr. Lynch switched institutions again, this time to become the Chair of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Minnesota.  He stayed at Minnesota for nearly 10 years before becoming Professor and Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at UC Davis.  He has recently stepped down as Chair, but remains quite active in the Department.  He is currently the Novy Professor of Dermatology.  As the Department’s greatest resource, Dr. Lynch will often be asked to consult on the most difficult and challenging patients in the clinic.  In fact, he has a reputation for his ability to shed light on dermatologic mysteries.

Dr. Lynch has served the dermatologic community generously throughout his long career including serving as Vice President of the American Academy of Dermatology and as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Dermatology.  He is author of over 100 publications in medical journals and 40 chapters in medical textbooks.  He is also author of or co-editor of six different dermatology textbooks.  Of his many awards, possibly the one that embodies him best is an honorary membership to the American Academy of Dermatology.  Fewer than 50 of the 13,000 American dermatologists have been awarded this honor. It is a testament to the contributions he has made to the dermatologic community.
