Deciding to participate in a clinical trial

The first step in deciding whether to participate in a clinical trial is to talk with your doctor. Learn as much as possible about the clinical trial you are considering. You may contact us at (916) 734-1438 to schedule an appointment with one of our Clinical Research Coordinators. Below are some questions you might want answered:

  • What is the purpose of the study?
  • What types of tests and experimental treatments are involved?
  • Will the study directly benefit me?
  • How do the possible risks, side effects and benefits of the study compare with my current treatment?
  • What are the risks?
  • What are the chances these risks may occur?
  • What will this study require of me?
  • How much time will be involved?
  • Who pays for the experimental treatment?
  • Will I be reimbursed for the treatment?
  • May I leave the trial at any time?
