Leadership Development

  • Self- and family-advocacy

Self- and family-advocacy is a high priority for our Consumer Advisory Committee, and CEDD is involved in many related projects, including workshops, conferences, networking, training materials, and website resources.  Recent workshop topics have ranged from “Nothing About Us Without Us: Partnerships and Inclusion Through Self-Advocacy” to parent training on “Handling Challenging Behaviors.” We are currently working on a new project to establish a support/networking group for youth with disabilities. We are also working towards the development of a summer camp for youth with disabilities.

  • Interdisciplinary, pre-service training

We currently offer a comprehensive developmental disabilities training program for medical fellows and psychology postdocs which is 1-3 years in length. CEDD trainees receive instruction and practical experience in training/teaching, community service, research, and the translation of research into practical applications.  We are currently working on development of a training program for doctoral and masters’ level students in Human and Child Development at UC Davis and in Special Education, School Psychology, Behavioral Psychology, Speech and Audiology and School Nursing at CSUS.  We are also working on 1) programs for short-term trainees at UC Davis and CSUS, and 2) a continuing education program in conjunction with UC Davis Extension.
