International organization that seeks to empower people with intellectual disabilities through sports training and competition. Special Olympics offers events in 30 sports for those 8 years or older, regardless of ability level.

Links to different programs offered by the City of Sacramento for persons with disabilities. Programs include youth sports programs, social and fitness programs for teens and adults with disabilities, and camp and outdoor education programs.
- Sacramento County Regional Parks Therapeutic Recreational Services
Therapeutic Recreational Services provides opportunities for people with special needs to explore and have fun. Activities are offered throughout the Sacramento area.
- Kids Catch a Smile Day
Annual event held for physically challenged children and their families to enjoy a day of fishing and other fun activities. The free event is held at the Aerojet complex in Rancho Cordova the Saturday after Mother’s Day.

- Therapeutic Recreation Program Information
Offered through Cosumnes Community Services District, therapeutic recreation helps people with disabilities increase their physical, emotional, mental, and social abilities. Programs are offered for people of all ages and abilities.
