California Agencies
- California Department of Developmental Services
State agency that provides services and supports to persons with developmental disabilities. Includes information about Early Start, State Regional Centers, State Developmental Centers, and vendor and provider information.
- California Department of Education, Division of Special Education
Provides information and resources to serve the unique needs of persons with disabilities so that each person will meet or exceed high standards of achievement in academic and nonacademic skills.
- California Department of Education Diagnostic Centers
Services for special education students, their families, and local education agencies. Services include assessment and educational planning services, technical assistance, and program consultation.
- California Department of Rehabilitation
Vocational rehabilitation and other services providing access and independence to people with disabilities in California.
- California Regional Centers
Local resources, services, and support for people with disabilities and their families. The link provides a directory of the twenty-one Regional Centers located throughout California.
- State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD)
Independent state agency that works to ensure that people with developmental disabilities and their families receive the services and supports they need. Through advocacy, capacity building and systemic change, SCDD works to achieve a consumer and family-based system of individualized services, supports, and other assistance.
- California Foundation for Independent Living Centers
Supports independent living centers in their local communities through advocating for systems change and promoting access and integration for people with disabilities. The website has information about assistive technology, access, healthcare, housing, transportation, and voting, for people with disabilities.
- Placer Independent Resource Services (Placer, El Dorado, & Alpine Counties)
(PIRS) advocates for the rights of people with disabilities, educates the community about disability issues, and provides services to persons with disabilities to live independent, productive lives. Any person with a disability is eligible for our services. Services are free of charge.
National Agencies
- U.S. Administration on Developmental Disabilities
ADD is responsible for the nationwide implementation of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000. ADD provides funding, monitoring, and policy guidance to programs across the United States for those with disabilities.

Twenty-two federal agencies joined to provide comprehensive information on cross-cutting issue areas including employment, benefits, housing, transportation, health care, education, civil rights and technology.
- U.S. Department of Education, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services (OSERS)
OSERS provides a wide range of supports to parents and individuals, school districts and states in the three main areas of special education, vocational rehabilitation and research.
- National Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center (NECTAC)
Supported by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education Programs to help children with disabilities (birth through 5 years) and their families have high quality, culturally appropriate and family-centered supports and services.
