California Agencies

California Department of Developmental Services is a state agency that provides services and supports to persons with developmental disabilities. The website includes information about Early Start, State Regional Centers, State Developmental Centers, and vendor and provider information.

The California Department of Education, Division of Special Education, provides information and resources to serve the unique needs of persons with disabilities so that each person will meet or exceed high standards of achievement in academic and nonacademic skills.

Diagnostic Centers provide services to special education students, their families, and local education agencies. Services include assessment and educational planning services, technical assistance, and program consultation.

The California Department of Rehabilitation provides vocational rehabilitation and other services providing access and independence to people with disabilities in California.

California Regional Centers provide local resources, services, and support to people with disabilities and their families. The link provides a directory of the twenty-one Regional Centers located throughout California.

The State Council on Developmental Disabilities (SCDD) is an independent state agency that works to ensure that people with developmental disabilities and their families receive the services and supports they need. Through advocacy, capacity building and systemic change, SCDD works to achieve a consumer and family-based system of individualized services, supports, and other assistance.

California Foundation for Independent Living Centers mission is to support independent living centers in their local communities through advocating for systems change and promoting access and integration for people with disabilities. The website has information about assistive technology, access, healthcare, housing, transportation, and voting, for people with disabilities.

National Agencies

The Administration on Developmental Disabilities (ADD) is responsible for the nationwide implementation of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000. ADD provides funding, monitoring, and policy guidance to programs across the United States for those with disabilities.

OSERS provides a wide range of supports to parents and individuals, school districts and states in the three main areas of special education, vocational rehabilitation and research.
