Program Description

The UC Davis CTSC provides state-of-the-art multidisciplinary skills in clinical and translational research to ensure that trainees and junior faculty successfully establish independent research careers targeting improvements in human health. To achieve this goal, we substantially strengthen clinical and translational education and training by creating an integrated infrastructure across multiple specific training programs. The UC Davis CTSC achieves the following specific objectives through the Research Education, Training and Career Development program:

1. Enhance and expand clinical research training currently available through our existing Mentored Clinical Research Training (K30) Program, so that it serves educational needs at all levels of career development.
2. Provide a competitive, K12-funded clinical and translational research Mentored Career Development Program (MCDP) for successful K30 scholars.
3. Create an innovative T32 pre-doctoral program in multi-disciplinary clinical research that involves collaborative, multi-disciplinary research ("team science") for both medical students (funded by the CTSC) and traditional basic science pre-doctoral graduate students (funded with institutional support).
4. Carefully integrate all CTSC educational initiatives across the individual programs.
   To fully appreciate the importance of these innovations, we consider our current capabilities and then discuss the principles that have guided the development of our enhanced clinical research education program. After providing an overview of our educational programs and a discussion of programmatic governance, we then describe our enhanced educational program/K30, our K12 program, and finally our T32.
