Carolyn Rhoads, R.N., M.S.N. began working at UC Davis Health with Patient Care Services as a per diem nurse. After several years of “floating”, she accepted a CN III position on Davis 6 Cardiology, which provided leadership and staff education opportunities. Her recent role on Davis 6 was Assistant Nurse Manager II. She received her Bachelor’s Degree and Masters Degree in nursing from Sacramento State University with an emphasis on education and leadership. For her master’s project, she developed an educational program for adolescents on the health effects of energy drink consumption, with a focus on the cardiovascular system. Carolyn completed her master’s preceptorship at the Center for Professional Practice of Nursing (CPPN) where she worked with the New Graduate Nurse Residency Program (NGNRP) by facilitating classes and mentoring new nurses to the profession.

Carolyn’s teaching experiences include: facilitator for Violence in the Workforce, Teach-Back, professional development classes, educational and skills day for Davis 6 staff and NGNRP, unit preceptor, undergraduate student preceptor, clinical resource nurse, Magnet Champion, and Unit-Based Practice Council member, bringing opportunities for quality improvement initiative implementation.

Carolyn has a passion for education and strives to create evidence-based nursing models while developing innovative strategies to educate nurses, patients, and communities to promote life long learning.
