This course is for bedside providers caring for pediatric patients with complex cardiac disease. Specifically, this course will enhance the learner's knowledge of the latest developments and advances in pre and post-op care of the hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) patient and evidenced based practices to improve outcomes. Topics to be discussed include pre-and post-care of HLHS patient, the three stage palliation surgical strategies, ventilator strategies utilized for these patients, importance and significance of near infrared spectrometry, extracorporeal life support status post norwood procedure and post-op complications and advance nursing care of these complications to improve outcomes. Additionally, discharge needs and home monitoring program will be explored and discussed.
