Course description

Topics of discussion will include:

  • Back to Basics - Standard Precautions - Content will include all elements of and reasons for Standard Precautions.  The correct way to don and doff personal protective equipment (PPE) will be demonstrated.
  • Ebola Virus - Lecture will provide the latest news and information regarding the Ebola Virus.  Topics covered will include the epidemiology and virulence of Ebola Virus, understanding the treatment options, and discussing prevention and control in a hospital setting.
  • Principles of Isolation – Lecture will cover the concept of isolation precaution and a historical review. Isolation practices for infection control will cover triage of patients, early detection, transporting patients, and communication. 
  • Multiple Drug Resistant Organisms (MRSA, VRE, ESBL) - Lecture will define the epidemiology and virulence factors, address infection control environmental aspects and discuss the treatment modalities for MDROs.

C.E. contact hours

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number CEP 26, for 4.0 contact hours.

Attendees will not receive C.E. credit if they are more than 20 minutes late; no partial credit can be awarded.

UC Davis employees

$25 registration deposit. Registration deposit is returned upon completion of class. Cancellation must be requested five days prior to class date to receive deposit refund.

Community registrants

$40 registration fee. Cancellation must be requested five days prior to class date to receive a full refund. A $25 service fee will be charged after this date.

Parking

Parking is available in parking lots 4, 12 and 17 with a UC Davis parking permit. A daily permit is available for purchase for $6 from the kiosks in lots 14 (2nd Ave. & 45th St.) and 18 (49th St. & V St.).
