Demolition History

Mental Health Building

Mental Health Building was a 14,714 gross square foot structure built in 1945 to serve the growing need for youth detention services. The main portion of the building is two stories with one-story wings on the north and south sides. From the time it opened until 1966, the building was used as a juvenile hall and housed approximately 30 boys and 20 girls. The building underwent minor renovation and was operated by County Hospital Mental Health Services from 1966 until its sale to the university in 1977, when it was converted for office use. The building was demolished in summer 2003. The site now accommodates construction trailers for the contractor and field staff of the Surgery & Emergency Services Pavilion project.
