UC Davis Health System and its Community Advisory Board will host the dance band Pop Fiction at its fourth annual outdoor concert on Wednesday, Aug. 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Held on the lawn behind Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California at 45th and X streets on the UC Davis Sacramento campus, the concert is free and open to the public.

Participants should bring blankets or lawn chairs, and they can pack picnic baskets or purchase food and beverages on site.

“The board is dedicated to supporting those efforts with activities that foster strong relationships between the health system and Sacramento-area residents, including this fun concert.”

The event is one way that the health system thanks its neighbors and community members for their support and its students, faculty and staff for all of the hard work they do throughout the year. It’s also an opportunity for families and friends to listen to music and enjoy a relaxing summer evening.

This year’s event features Pop Fiction, a versatile and energetic eight-member party band that plays dance favorites and pop classics from the ’70s through today. The family-oriented, smoke-free event includes a kids’ zone, complete with games, a bounce house, crafts and other fun activities for children.

“UC Davis Health System is essential to the health, well-being and progress of our community,” said Michael Saab, the Community Advisory Board member who chaired the planning for this year’s concert. “The board is dedicated to supporting those efforts with activities that foster strong relationships between the health system and Sacramento-area residents, including this fun concert.”

A variety of barbecue favorites will be available for purchase during the concert.

The Community Advisory Board is an essential partner in helping the health system achieve its patient-care, research, education and public-service missions. The group’s 28 members are business and nonprofit leaders who reflect the needs, beliefs and cultures of the region. Members serve six-year terms on a volunteer basis and are expected to encourage communication with and influence decisions that impact the broader community.

A variety of food and non-alcoholic beverages from Bistro Biagio will be available for purchase, including hot dogs, burgers, chicken and tri-tip sandwiches, ice cream and sodas.
