Point of Care Testing

Annual review of point of care testing (POCT) is required by Joint Commission and CLIA to verify that testing procedures and quality control measures are followed to ensure optimal patient care.

POCT modules are available through HealthStream or you may also download the PDF below. Currently the following modules are available to staff:

To successfully complete the modules you must:

  1. Complete the pre-test with a score of 80% or better; or review content and complete the post-test with a score of 80% or better.
  2. Print certificate of completion and present to your manager or designee.
  3. Demonstrate competency by:
    • Performing a test on a blind specimen
    • Have your supervisor or qualified designee periodically observe your test technique in your work area or during a skills lab session.
  4. Return the certificate of completion to the Center for Nursing Education for documentation in your education record.

Specific modules vary by work area. Please review the  attached grid or the  ambulatory grid to identify which modules are required by your unit. To begin, log into HealthStream and the modules required by your unit should be assigned to your account. If you were not assigned any course, you may click the Catalog tab. Search for a specific module or "poct" to bring up the modules. If you cannot login or need help, please contact us by e-mail at cnereg@ucdmc.ucdavis.edu.
