Critical Lab Value Documentation
Joint Commission requires we develop procedures for relaying critical value test results within the organization. Critically abnormal results need to be communicated quickly to a responsible individual so that corrective action may be taken. Delays in reporting or responding to a critical value can produce poor patient outcomes.
The health system reporting guidelines ensure that information is provided in a timely manner to a qualified responsible care-provider in order to prevent avoidable delays in treatment and care.
This module is designed to reinforce the importance of timely notification and the required documentation in the EMR for critical lab values.
Completion of this module requires reviewing the module and proceeding to complete the post-test. You must access the post-test to receive credit for viewing this module.
To begin, log into HealthStream and the module should be assigned to your account. If you were not assigned the module you may click the Catalog tab and search for critical lab value to bring up the module. If you cannot login or need help, please contact us by e-mail at cnereg@ucdmc.ucdavis.edu.
