Pediatric Sedation - The Nurse's Role
This course is a foundational sedation class, for nurses at all practice levels, caring for infants and children. This course utilizes lecture and simulated case studies through use of a Human Patient Simulator (HPS). The focus is on the nurse’s role in providing safe, high quality care for pediatric patients at all phases along the sedation continuum. Effective team behaviors and communication skills will be incorporated throughout the curriculum, and participants will have an opportunity to practice as a team member during the simulation portion of the course. This course emulates the nurse’s workflow, stressing the importance of appropriate assessment and monitoring, early identification of complications and timely interventions, when caring for pediatric patients undergoing sedation.
