Course description
The pediatric advanced life support provider course is designed for health-care providers who initiate and direct advanced life support through the stabilization or transport phases of a pediatric emergency, either in or out of hospital. In this course you will enhance your skills in the evaluation and management of an infant or child with respiratory compromise, circulatory compromise or cardiac arrest. In order to receive PALS recognition, participants must successfully complete all performance evaluation stations and score 84% or better on the written evaluation. Candidates must be health-care providers (medical, nursing, paramedical, allied health professionals) whose daily occupations or volunteer activities demand proficiency in the knowledge and skills of PALS. Others may attend at the discretion of the course director.
Course materials
The loaner texts, AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support Provider Manual 2006, AHA PALS Course Guide 2006, and the 2005 Handbook of ECC for health-care providers may be picked up at our office. Books and study packets can be picked up approximately one month prior to class and no less than one week before class. If materials are not picked up at least one week in advance, participants will forfeit attendance to class and will need to reschedule to attend at a later date. Community participants must purchase their own books per AHA policy. Participants are responsible for reviewing materials prior to the class. Loaner texts must be returned in good condition the day of class. Participants are responsible for the cost of the text if it is not returned or returned in poor condition. Textbooks are available for purchase at the Center for Nursing Education, UC Davis Medical Center Bookstore or through the American Heart Association.
