Course description
This course will address current methods of achieving satisfactory pain management in patient care. Areas to be addressed include characteristics of pain, policy review and patient education. Epidural related policies and flow sheets will also be covered, as well as hands-on catheter and pump practice. Patient advocacy issues, dose ranges, patient controlled analgesia and epidural use will also be discussed. In addition, issues surrounding pain management in special populations such as pregnancy, pediatrics, neurologically impaired, substance abuse and palliative pain control will be explored.

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number CEP 26, for 7.8 contact hours.
UC Davis Medical Center is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

$25 registration deposit. Registration deposit is returned upon completion of class. Cancellation must be requested five days prior to class date to receive deposit refund.
Community registrants
$117 registration fee. Refund must be requested five days prior to class date and will be subject to a $25 service charge.

Parking
Parking is available in lot 25, approximately one block from the Broadway Building on 50th Street adjacent to the M.I.N.D. Institute. Park with a UC Davis parking permit, or purchase a daily permit for $4.
