Course description
This course is appropriate for health-care providers seeking a NRP provider course. The course will follow a self-learning format approved by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American Heart Association (AHA). Participants are expected to have studied the manual prior to the course. The course includes a review of each lesson in the NRP Provider manual. The lecture is followed by the exam provided by the AAP and mega-code skills testing with an opportunity to practice using resuscitation related equipment. Participants are evaluated on the ability to apply the knowledge learned in each of the core lessons, evaluating both cognitive and psychomotor skills required during neonatal resuscitation. Candidates must be health-care providers (medical, nursing, paramedical allied health professionals) whose daily occupations demand proficiency in neonatal delivery room resuscitation.
Course materials
Participants are responsible for studying the NRP manual prior to the course date. A loaner manual, The AAP/AHA 2006 Fifth Edition Neonatal Resuscitation Provider Manual for UC Davis Health System staff may be picked up at our office, approximately one month prior to the class with a $50 deposit. Loaner manuals must be returned in good condition the day of the course. Participants are responsible for the $50 cost of the manual if it is not returned or is damaged. Community participants must purchase their own books per AHA policy. Manuals are available for purchase at the UC Davis Medical Center Bookstore, (916) 734-3452 and through the American Academy of Pediatrics.
