Course description
The science and clinical application of mechanical ventilation is broad and complicated. The purpose of this course is to clarify areas of confusion about this and other aspects of mechanical ventilation. The confusion about the modes of ventilation and the different breath types available on the modern ventilators currently used in the ICU as well as proper management of seriously ill patients in need of ventilator support will be addressed.
This course is intended for respiratory therapists and critical care nurses who work with mechanically ventilated patients on a daily basis.

Topics include
- Identify different patient interfaces to the ventilator.
- Describe the types of respiratory failures.
- Explain the different ventilator controls: VC and PC.
- Identify hazards of mechanical ventilation.
C.E. credit
Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number CEP 26, for 4.0 contact hours.
UC Davis Medical Center is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

UC Davis employees
$25 registration deposit. Registration deposit is returned upon completion of class. Cancellation must be requested five days prior to class date to receive deposit refund.
Community registrants
$60 registration fee. Refund must be requested five days prior to class date and will be subject to a $25 service charge.

Parking
Parking is available in lot 25, approximately one block from the Broadway Building on 50th Street adjacent to the M.I.N.D. Institute. Park with a UC Davis parking permit, or purchase a daily permit for $4.
