Course description

This course will help staff identify and manage the intoxicated patient from their presentation in the ED to discharge.

Topics covered include

  • Behavior management of the agitated intoxicated patient
  • Medical management of the intoxicated patient
  • Interpreting toxicology screens
  • Nursing assessment of the altered patient
  • Pharmacological interventions to assist in behavior control
  • Legal issues
  • How to recognize substance abuse
  • How to help and direct substance abusers post hospital visit

C.E. credit

Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, provider number CEP 26, for 6.7 contact hours.

Attendees will not receive C.E. credit if they are more than 20 minutes late; no partial credit can be awarded.

UC Davis employees

$25 registration deposit. Registration deposit is returned upon completion of class. Cancellation must be requested five days prior to class date to receive deposit refund.

Community registrants

$67 registration fee. Refund must be requested five days prior to class date and will be subject to a $25 service charge.

Parking

Parking is available in parking lots 14 and 17 on 2nd avenue. Park with a UC Davis parking permit, or purchase a daily permit for $5 in lot 14.
