Self-study Modules "War on Pain" series - Accreditation Infomation

California Assembly Bill 487 - California state law now requires California physicians to obtain a minimum of 12-hours of Category 1 continuing medical education credit in pain management by December 31, 2006.

California Assembly Bill 487 and the Medical Board of California, Business and Professions Code Section 2190.5
(a) All physicians and surgeons shall complete a mandatory continuing education course in the subjects of pain management and the treatment of terminally ill and dying patients. For the purposes of this section, this course shall be a one-time requirement of 12 credit hours within the required minimum established by regulation, to be completed by December 31, 2006. All physicians and surgeons licensed on and after January 1, 2002, shall complete this requirement within four years of their initial license or by their second renewal date, whichever occurs first. The board may verify completion of this requirement on the renewal application form.
(b) By regulatory action, the board may exempt physicians and surgeons by practice status category from the requirement in subdivision (a) if the physician and surgeon does not engage in direct patient care, does not provide patient consultations, or does not reside in the State of California. (c) This section shall not apply to physicians and surgeons practicing in pathology or radiology specialty areas

The Office of Continuing Medical Education has created for California physicians a new 12-hour self-study series "War on Pain".

The Office of Continuing Medical Education has created these courses as an outreach for California physicians. The following course have been designated to help you meet this requirement. This series was created without any pharmaceutical support. It features UC Davis pain specialists who are faculty physicians in the field of pain and palliative medicine. The program however, is designed for primary care physicians.

CME Credit Application
There is a fee to obtain CME Credit for this activity. Continuing Medical Education at UC Davis Health System (School of Medicine, Medical Center and Medical Group) designates this educational activity for a maximum of 12.0 AMA PRA™ Category 1 Credit.

Accreditation: The UC Davis Health System is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. This CME activity was planned in accordance with the ACCME essentials for enduring materials. Length of time has been determined to be 1.0 hour for each module for a total of 12-hours if all 12 modules are completed. This activity was originally released on January 17, 2006. This program material is approved until January 17, 2010. Event was review January 2008 and CME credit is approved for 4 years from the release date of January 17, 2006.  This activity has been reviewed by Continuing Medical Education, UC Davis Health System. ACCME- required information for this activity is located for review at the Office of Continuing Medical Education.

Physician Credit: Continuing Medical Education at University of California, Davis, Health System (School of Medicine, Medical Center and Medical Group) designates this educational activity for a maximum of 12.0 AMA PRA™ Category 1 Credit. Physicians must complete each module to qualify for the 1.0 hour(s) of credit; there is no "partial credit" allowed on the one hour modules. A maximum total of 12-hours credit available for "War on Pain" series.
