Clinical Trials at UC Davis Health System

Featured Clinical Trial — Peer Interaction

What is this study evaluating?

The Peer Interaction study at the UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute is looking at how children with and without autism play together on a playground and will include neuroimaging of their brains while they make decisions.

What is autism?

Autism is characterized by impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, and unusual, repetitive, or severely limited activities and interests.

Who can join this trial?

Children ages 8-12 who have high-functioning autism or who do not have high-functioning autism and are typically developing are eligible to join this study

What is required?

Participation in the study requires three visits to the UC Davis M.I.N.D. Institute and the UC Davis Imaging Research Center in Sacramento. The first visit will consist of psychological testing that takes between 1 and 2 hours. The second visit will involve playing on a playground, and takes about an hour. Children will undergo neuroimaging (functional MRI) on their third visit that involves playing a game and looking at pictures during the imaging process.
