Featured Clinical Trial:
Evaluating an oral medication for multiple sclerosis
What is this study evaluating?
The UC Davis Neuroimmunology Group is conducting a two-year-long phase III trial, called FREEDOMS II, to study the effectiveness and safety of an oral medication for the treatment of relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis, the most common form of the disease.
What is multiple sclerosis?
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, progressive, potentially disabling autoimmune disease that attacks the central nervous system. It affects over 2 million people and is the leading cause of neurological disability in young adults. Most currently approved therapies require regular injections and have associated side effects such as injection-site reactions or flu-like symptoms.
Who can join this trial?
- Men and women ages 18 to 55 years
- Diagnosis of relapsing-remitting MS
- Not currently on treatment for MS
- Able to walk without aid
What is required?
Study participants have a two-thirds chance of being on one of two doses of active medication, and a one-third chance of receiving a placebo. During the study, participants will take the medication or placebo daily for 24 months.
