Featured Clinical Trial The effect of soluble fiber on body weight
What is this study evaluating?
This study is evaluating the effectiveness of an all-natural soluble fiber dietary supplement on the regulation of body weight in overweight individuals.
Why is this study important?
This study is trying to better understand the effects of soluble fiber on weight loss, blood glucose and appetite control. It is known that moderate weight loss can lower risk for cardiovascular disease and diabetes. It is widely believed that soluble fiber supplements can bind to the fat in foods and decrease the absorption of fat. This can decrease calorie intake and make it easier to maintain body weight or possibly help lose weight.
Who can join this trial?
The study is recruiting 60 men and women between the ages of 18 and 65 years of age who have a body mass index (BMI) of between 25 and 32 to participate in this study.
What is required?
Once screened and accepted into the study, participants will be randomly assigned to take either the study’s soluble fiber supplement or a placebo the first month, and the other the second month. Three visits for tests and assessments will be to either the UC Davis Clinical Research Center on the fourth floor of the Sacramento Veterans Administration Medical Center at Mather or at UC Davis Ragel Human Nutrition Research Center on the Davis campus.
