Teleradiology
The Teleradiology program objective is to increase radiological access to patients and providers while reducing the number of referrals to outside facilities for STAT interpretations.
In October 1996, Teleradiology was formally implemented in the UC Davis Medical Group, Primary Care Network clinics. We now provide radiological consultative services in California to clinics located in Roseville, Carmichael, Auburn, Elk Grove, Folsom and Susanville. We also provide secondary diagnostic interpretation for a hospital in South Korea.
The current method of transmission is through a Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) store and forward technology widely used for radiological image transmissions. The films are accomplished by a radiology technician, scanned through a digitizer and transmitted from a remote site to UC Davis Medical Center for interpretation.
Current procedures being accomplished via Teleradiology for STAT interpretations include:
- CT
- Plain film
- Ultrasound
