Teleradiology

The Teleradiology Program objective is to increase radiological access to patients and providers throughout the greater Sacramento area and beyond.  Using teleradiology, UC Davis can provide timely expert subspecialty image interpretation.

In October 1996, teleradiology was formally implemented in the UC Davis Medical Group clinics. We now provide radiological consultative services in California to clinics located in Roseville, Carmichael, Auburn, Elk Grove, Folsom, Davis and Campus Student Health. We also provide preliminary diagnostic interpretation for Colusa Regional Medical Center.

The current method of transmission is through a Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) store and forward technology widely used for radiological image transmissions. The images are accomplished by a radiology technologist using digital imaging technology or scanned through a digitizer and transmitted from a remote site to UC Davis Medical Center for interpretation.

Current procedures being accomplished via teleradiology for STAT interpretations include:

  • CT
  • General Radiography
  • Ultrasound
  • MRI
  • Mammography

It is our goal to provide daytime subspecialty consultations and interpretations to other radiology departments in Northern California and beyond.
