UC Davis study suggests sick children should be transferred to specialty hospitals sooner

April 30, 2008 — Critically ill children admitted to the pediatric intensive care units of regional medical centers from smaller hospitals are sicker than those admitted directly from those centers' own emergency rooms, a study by pediatric critical care physicians at UC Davis Children's Hospital has found.

UC Davis to develop metrics to assess emergency preparedness at health-care facilities
February 27, 2008 — Physicians and researchers from UC Davis Health System, along with Stanford University and the Battelle Memorial Institute, have received a $674,000 contract from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response to develop indicators of emergency preparedness for the nation's hospitals and health-care facilities.

UC RECEIVES $22 MILLION FCC TELEHEALTH GRANT 
November 20, 2007 —  The University of California, in partnership with a coalition of government agencies, health care providers and others, received a three-year, $22 million award today from the Federal Communications Commission to help develop a new California Telehealth Network.

UC Davis health and technology expert named to national advisory committee
October 18, 2007 — Thomas Nesbitt, executive associate dean for clinical and administrative affairs at UC Davis School of Medicine, has been appointed to an expert panel on emergency communications that stems from recommendations made to Congress by the 9/11 Commission.

$5 million grant to aid community preparedness for public-health emergencies
September 28, 2007 — UC Davis Health System is among five recipients nationwide of $5-million grants awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to improve hospitals' and communities' ability to prepare and respond to disasters and emergencies.

$100 million grant from Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation launches Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis
July 31, 2007 — Continuing its commitment to improving the quality of patient care and fostering nursing excellence through education, the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation today announced $100 million in founding support to launch the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at the University of California, Davis.

UC Davis Health System receives grant to expand resources for people with developmental disabilities
May 2, 2007 — UC Davis Health System has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to establish a new Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, Education, Research and Service.

May 25, 2006 — The UC Davis Center for Health and Technology received the President's Award for the Advancement of Telemedicine from the American Telemedicine Association at its 11th annual international meeting in San Diego in May.

MORE DOCTORS AND BETTER HEALTH CARE FOR RURAL AREAS
December 5, 2006 — UC Davis School of Medicine has an approximately $35 million proposal in the works that will help increase the number of medical students it trains and establish the school as a statewide hub for medical telecommunications, all with an emphasis on improving health care for residents living in the rural and more remote areas of California.
