Center for Health and Technology

Distance Learning and Media Production

Distance learning uses telecommunications technology to communicate between parties separated by time and/or distance.

As a complement to existing telephone and electronic mail technologies, new visual communication tools have become valuable to medical experts and healthcare professionals to provide education and training to remote sites.

What services are provided?

Videoconferencing, Media Production and Web Streaming at the Center for Health and Technology are state-of-the-art enterprises that provide videoconferencing and multimedia production to facilitate effective and productive interaction.

Continuing Medical Education

Utilizing this interactive medium, UC Davis Health System is able to provide Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) credit.

Media Production

Media Production is a full service entity offering a strong creative focus with a wide variety of advanced solutions to help produce and deliver educational and instructional media. The new high definition studio and production control room provides 3 HD cameras with teleprompters, green screen and multiple backdrops.

Thoughts are focused into a goal oriented approach to ensure delivery of the right message. From concept creation, script writing, shooting, editing and choosing the right delivery medium, this group can produce live or recorded content to audiences. Our production control room allows live switching, video playback and the ability to send audio and video to a truck pedestal (located in the first floor parking lot) connecting via a satellite or microwave truck.

Two high definition edit suites capture audio and video directly from the studio as well as support all field productions. Our clients can access their videos via a URL embedded on their web pages, linking to their media hosted on our server.

Videoconferencing

Videoconferencing allows medical experts within the health system to provide education to remote locations without having to leave the Health System.  This service provides physician and nursing education and, due to the interactive nature of videoconferencing, the health system is also able to provide Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Nursing Education (CNE) credit for participation.

Medical professionals can remain in their own community while learning and earning professional credits thereby saving travel time and costs coupled with better use of professional time.  Videoconferencing allows health care professionals to participate in a variety of presentations and administrative meetings between the Health System located in Sacramento, the UC Davis campus, and various sites located throughout California and internationally.
