These medications are members of the sulfonylurea class.
How sulfonylureas work
- Works on the pancreas to increase insulin production
Guidelines for use
- Take at the same time daily before meals
- Taken once or twice per day, follow your physician’s orders
- Glucotrol should be taken 30 minutes before meals
- May be prescribed with other medications for treatment of diabetes
What to do if a dose is forgotten
- It can be taken if it is less than 2 hours from your normal dosing time
- Do not take 2 doses the next time
Side effects
- Low blood sugar
- Very rarely skin reaction, dark urine, stomach upset, increased sensitivity to the sun
Who should NOT take this medication
- Some people with kidney or liver disease or allergies to sulfa drugs
- Pregnant women
