Carbohydrate Counting

Carbohydrate counting is a method that can be used to monitor and control the amount of carbohydrates in your diet. In carbohydrate counting, the grams of carbohydrate are counted.  Each serving size listed below is equal to 15 grams of carbohydrate. 

Carbohydrates Serving Size   Grams per Serving
Bread, standard slice 1 slice 15 grams
Rice or Pasta 1/3 cup 15 grams
Pinto Beans 1/2 cup 15 grams
Corn or Peas 1/2 cup 15 grams
Potato 1/2 cup 15 grams
Peaches 1/2 cup 15 grams
Cantalope, cubed 1 cup 15 grams
Milk, lowfat 1 cup 15 grams
Jelly 1 tablespoon 15 grams

 

Aim for:
45-60 grams of carbohydrates per meal 
 15-30 grams of carbohydrates per snack
