Diabetes and Alcohol

•Read your medication bottle! Alcohol should be avoided with some diabetes medications. Note: If you are taking insulin, be sure to eat some carbohydrate while drinking alcohol to prevent hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
•Alcohol contains many calories and has little nutritional value. Limit alcohol if you are trying to lose weight.
•Alcohol may raise triglycerides. Limit alcohol intake if your triglycerides are high.
•Moderation is the best policy. Moderation is 1 drink per day for women, 2 drinks per day for men.
