This drug is a member of the DDP-4 inhibitors class.
How DDP-4 inhibitors work
- Increases insulin when blood sugar is high, especially after you eat
- Reduces the amount of sugar made by your liver after you eat, when your body doesn’t need it
Guidelines for use
- It should be taken once per day by people who have Type 2 diabetes
- It can be taken as alone or in combination with Metformin or Actos/Avandia
- If moderate or severe kidney disease is present, a dose adjustment is recommended
What to do if a dose is forgotten
- Resume your usual dose the next day
- Do not take 2 doses the next time
Side effects
- Upper respiratory infection, headache, infection in nose/throat, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea
Who should NOT take this medication
- People with Type 1 diabetes
- Pregnant women
