Let's Get Started
Let’s Get Started is a 2-hour introductory class for patients newly diagnosed with diabetes or wishing to learn basic diabetes self-management skills. Topics covered in the class include:
- Glucose testing and recording
- Basic nutrition
- Signs of high and low blood glucose
- Benefits of exercise
- Goal setting
The classes are open to UC Davis Health System patients. These classes are offered in the Lawrence J. Ellison Ambulatory Care Center (Ellison Building) in Sacramento and UC Davis Medical Groups in Folsom, Roseville, Auburn, Davis, Carmichael and Rancho Cordova. In Charge and In Control
In Charge and In Control is a 4-week comprehensive diabetes class. Recognized by the American Diabetes Association for meeting the national standards for diabetes self-management education, the class takes place over four 2-hour sessions. Topics covered in the class include:
- Glucose testing and recording
- Understanding medications
- Foot care
- Nutrition
- Exercise
- Complications of diabetes
- Guidelines on diabetes self-care
- Action plans

Dining with Diabetes
Dining with Diabetes is a 1 ½ hour class focusing on nutrition. Taught by a registered dietician, this class covers topics such as:
- Carbohydrate counting
- Meal planning
- Cooking
- Shopping
- Eating away from home

Recharge Workshop
Recharge Workshop is a 2-hour workshop taught by a certified diabetes educator. This class is recommended as follow-up after attending “In Charge and In Control” class. Recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA), this workshop will:
- “Recharge” your diabetes self-care skills
- Update your individualized action plan
- Inform about current diabetes research
- Discuss diabetes-related lab results
