Child Neurology Clinic - specialties
UC Davis Children's Hospital neurologists staff and direct the pediatric section of the UC Davis Health System’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. Neurologist Celia Chang conducts clinic for children who have intractable or difficult-to-diagnose epileptic disorders.
Their advanced treatments for epilepsy include administration of the “ketogenic diet,” a high-fat regimen that effectively reduces seizures in many children who have not responded well to medical treatment. They also have achieved success using an innovative device called a vagal nerve stimulator, which can significantly reduce the frequency of seizures in children who have not been helped by anticonvulsant medication or the ketogenic diet.
The Department of Neurology operates an advanced epilepsy surgery program for children with intractable seizures that cannot be controlled through standard medical treatment programs or who have brain abnormalities that are treatable through a surgical approach.
