Research

More than 350 research studies are currently underway in School of Medicine facilities in Davis and at the Medical Center in Sacramento, funded by federal, state, foundation, and pharmaceutical/biotechnology sources. We also collaborate with several affiliated research institutions, such as the Shriners Hospital for Children, Veterans Affairs (VA) Health System, USDA Western Human Nutrition Research Center (WHNRC), and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories. In addition, School of Medicine faculty are engaged in innovative collaborations within the UC Davis community — with the California Regional Primate Research Center, School of Veterinary Medicine, Division of Biological Sciences, College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and the College of Engineering.

UC Davis Children's Hospital physicians conduct research into causes and treatments for childhood cancer, asthma, diabetes, obesity, autism and other disorders. Researchers receive some $4 million in funds annually from federal and state agencies and from health-care foundations for studies ranging from early childhood development and environmental toxin exposures to benefits of breastfeeding for respiratory infections, bone growth and pain reduction.
