CAARE Center team
The UC Davis Children's Hospital CAARE Center is staffed by medical doctors and nurses, as well as by behavioral specialists, who perform medical and psychological evaluations and counseling services for abused and neglected children who are under the age of 18. The team encompasses a case manager and social workers, including a licensed clinical social worker.
Psychosocial services performed by the social worker staff members include psychosocial evaluations, crisis counseling for children and members of their families, and comprehensive services for adolescent rape trauma victims. The team conducts assessments of suicidal patients, coordinating with law enforcement authorities in cases classified as “5150 holds”—a reference to section 5150 of the state’s Welfare and Institution Code authorizing restraint and containment of patients deemed to present a danger to themselves and to others.
