Clinical/Research Interests

Dr. Philipps is a specialist in neonatal-perinatal medicine. As a pediatric professor and section chief of neonatology and developmental biology at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, Philipps also served as the medical director of the University Medical Center Newborn Intensive Care Unit. In addition to his clinical interests in neonatology, Dr. Philipps has had significant research interest in NIH-sponsored studies related to fetal metabolism and the endocrinology of fetal growth, with particular reference to diabetes in pregnancy. He is studying the biological significance of growth factors (hormones) present in milk and their potential positive effects on growth and development of premature infants.
